FUMIGATION

Wood is a potential vehicle for harmful organisms, the European Community issued, on May 5, 2000, the directive n. 2000/29 in which it defined the particular requirements for the circulation of pallets between the various nations.

A preventive treatment has been made mandatory, defined as "fumigation", Through the use of chemical products based on methyl bromide, or alternatively the HT treatment (heat treatment), consisting of a heat treatment in which the wood is treated in special cells called dryers, the two systems are equivalent and both recognized as valid for the purposes of the ISPM 15 Fao directive in order to eliminate pests that can cause serious damage to forests.

This treatment is confirmed by the presence, on the pallet, of a special marking.

Fumigation involves high costs and for this reason or operational superficiality, non-fumigated pallets are still often used today.

Pallets made from 100% recycled plastic are not subject to the restrictions set for WOOD pallets.
